About Us
The Association of Turkish Furniture Manufacturers (MOSDER) was founded by a group Turkey's leading producers of quality furniture.

MOSDER's goal is to ensure that furniture brand-names and products of Turkish origin mature, and establish a presence in the international market.

MOSDER's mission is to help raise awareness of furniture retailers among consumers in our country in order to ensure an increase in demand for brand-name furniture items. We also work to bring Turkey’s unique vision abroad by facilitating the means by which furniture products of Turkish origin, particularly those of quality and specialty designs reach the international market.

MOSDER, sponsors market reports about the latest developments and newest trends in the furniture sector for its members. Our association organizes design competitions to support new talents and offer them an opportunity to showcase their ideas. MOSDER offers guidance to its members in terms of their export activities and it assist the sector in research and development.

The Global Furniture Sector: Past, Present and Future

The world of the 21st Century is acquiring a new shape; the, global markets are gradually integrating due to the ongoing process of globalization. Of course, changes in global industries as well as in the money markets also have appreciable effects on the global furniture sector. The industry has been developing gradually due to the emergence of new markets. This is a reflection of increased consumption and substantial improvements in the income levels of developing countries.

The Current State of the Turkish Furniture Sector

In Turkey, the demand for furniture products has been increasing considerably due to increased urbanization, population growth, and rising living standards. MOSDER, having acquired a fundamental understanding of the requirements of our era, has been shaping its process of development in this regard based on a new approach. Our performance demonstrates at each instance that Turkey is able to compete with the Europe.

Today, approximately 60,000 companies, including manufacturers and retail stores are involved in the Turkish furniture sector. Research data suggests that a total of 260,000 people are employed in Turkey’s furniture production .

Among the most important cities in the manufacturing of Turkish furniture are İstanbul, Ankara, Kayseri, Bursa (İnegöl), İzmir, and Adana.

A review of the extent of the Turkish furniture sector indicates a consumption volume of over US$ 6 Billion based on retail sales prices. With a growth rate of 8%, this sector is proving to be one of Turkey’s domestic industries with the highest rate of growth, as per the actual data in 2005.

Turkish manufacturers export their products to approximately 170 countries. Total volume of furniture products exported from Turkey has increased to US$ 760 Million in 2006 from US$ 75 Million in 1995. A major portion of this export volume is due to sales from members of MOSDER.

MOSDER’s Contributions to the Turkish Furniture Sector

Believing that the Turkish furniture sector deserves a higher position in the ranking of international markets, due to its machinery capabilities, qualified manpower, capital magnitude, and production capacity, MOSDER supports the furniture sector by means of an expansive range of activities.

MOSDER maintains an interest in the developments and innovations taking place in the global furniture sector and sets new quality standards applied in the developed countries, and procure reports for submission to Turkish furniture manufacturers. MOSDER also cooperates with manufacturers in order to contribute to advancements in the development of furniture.

MOSDER continues to build avenues of cooperation with furniture manufacturers, industrialists, importers, and retailers required for development of the furniture industry, and perform the activities intended to ensure sound decisions are made and implemented by the leading associations of the sector by sharing sectorial requirements, as well as solutions thereof with the public administrations.

MOSDER has been organizing the IMOB Istanbul Furniture Fair for 3 years, which is intended to become one of the largest furniture fairs in the world. The Istanbul Furniture Fair attracts professional buyers to Turkey from countries around the world, and also sets the domestic agenda in the furniture market. MOSDER also participates in international fairs, doing everything to promote the Turkish furniture sector.

Knowing that industrial design plays an important role in the competition among countries in the global marketplace, MOSDER works to promote a competitive design. Believing that only special designs will enable the Turkish furniture sector to gain a long-term presence at the international arena, MOSDER has been organizing design contests for household furniture products, in cooperation with universities, for the last three years. MOSDER allows young designers who have the potential to shape the future of the Turkish furniture industry meet major players in Turkish furniture brands as well as the corporations and persons who direct the Turkish furniture sector. The sector has benefited from the design contests (organized by MOSDER since 2005) as they have given talented young designers the platform they need to break into the world of household furniture design.

MOSDER is one of the founding members of the European Furniture Industries confederation (EFIC).

Attaching a special importance to research activities, MOSDER continuously monitors consumer and production data, such as domestic volume of furniture production, volume of domestic market, idle capacity, employment levels, distribution by regions, separation by product groups, etc., and determines export volumes by product groups and countries as well as potential countries, and inform its members accordingly.
